The route, drawn quietly

Eight in the morning, the small boat from Rovinj harbour. Twenty minutes out — pine, white stone, the water unbelievably clear. A cove on the back side, away from the day-trippers. Clay rides on the bow with his ears blown back. Swim, sit, swim again. Back on the noon boat, hair still salt. Long lunch in the old town. Afternoon: nothing.

The Planned Day

Written before the day was lived. Held lightly. Will be replaced as it happens.

The shape of the day

The early boat from Rovinj harbour to Crveni Otok. Twenty minutes across pine-clear water. A cove on the back side of the island, away from the day-trippers. Back on the noon boat, hair still salt. The afternoon is nothing.

What to do

  • 0108:00 boat from Rovinj harbour — first crossing of the day.
  • 02The back-side cove — empty stone, pine shadow, glass-clear water.
  • 03Clay on the bow with his ears blown back.
  • 04Long lunch in the old town with wet hair.
  • 05Afternoon: nothing.

A loose rhythm

  1. 07:15Walk down to Rovinj harbour. Bakery on the way.
  2. 08:00Boat to Crveni Otok. Twenty minutes across.
  3. 08:30 – 11:30Walk to the back-side cove. Swim, sit, swim again.
  4. 12:00Noon boat back to Rovinj.
  5. 13:00Long lunch in the old town. Wet hair, no rush.
  6. AfternoonHammock at Amarin. Read. Doze. Clay at your feet.
  7. EveningStay close. Grill on the deck, wine, early to bed.

Why this day

This is the ritual day — small boat, white stone, the dog ahead of you on the path. The kind of morning the rest of the year remembers.

How it will feel

Salt-skinned, light, finally arrived.

Practical notes

  • · Buy boat tickets at the kiosk on the harbour the evening before.
  • · Towel, water, and a hat — there's no shop on the back side.
  • · Clay's leash for the boat. He rides better at the bow than below.
  • · Crveni Otok itself isn't an official dog beach — keep him on the back-side rocks where it's quiet, and rinse him at Amarin's outdoor showers on the way back to the bungalow.

Awaiting the day
