Family-run alpine Gasthof at the mouth of the Eggental — pool, sauna, real restaurant, breakfast in. Fifteen minutes into Bolzano if there's evening energy. There won't be. That's the point.

The Planned Day
Written before the day was lived. Held lightly. Will be replaced as it happens.
The shape of the day
Out of Rogoznica at four. Croatia, Slovenia, Italy. By lunch the car parks at the Eggentaler — a chalet-style Gasthof in Kardaun, just outside Bolzano, where the Eggental valley opens into the Dolomites. Pool first, then sauna, then a quiet steak in the stube. Sleep early. Five hours of Alps tomorrow and you're home.
What to do
- 01Drop bags, swim suit on, straight into the pool with a beer. The road undoing itself.
- 02Sauna in the late afternoon. The kind of heat that finishes what the sea started.
- 03Char-grilled steak in the stube. A glass of Lagrein. No driving anywhere — it's all downstairs.
- 04A short evening walk with Clay along the Eggentaler stream. Cool stone, fast water, no one else.
A loose rhythm
- 04:00Last departure. Out of Rogoznica before the resort wakes. Coffee at the first Croatian autocesta stop.
- MiddayThrough Slovenia, into Italy. The first Dolomite peaks appear north of Treviso.
- 13:00–14:00Pull into Eggentaler. Drop the bags. Pool. Beer. Don't think about anything.
- Late afternoonSauna. Then a slow walk with Clay along the river path.
- EveningDinner downstairs in the stube. Steak, Lagrein, no rush. In bed by ten.
Why this day
Day twenty-one is recovery dressed as a stop. Not a city, not an excursion — a hotel that gives the body back what the road took: pool, sauna, steak, sleep. South Tyrol at the seam between Mediterranean and Alpine. The trip is not over yet, but it has already started landing.
How it will feel
The kind of tired where the body forgives you. The mountains hold what's left.
Practical notes

- · Restaurant is closed on Mondays — but Thursday night you're fine.
- · Pool open early April → late October — should be open the night you arrive.
- · Free cancel until 17 June 2026. After that, full charge applies.
