The Planned Day

Written before the day was lived. Held lightly. Will be replaced as it happens.

The shape of the day

The longest single drive of the trip — but the destination earns it. Out of Orebić very early, ferry to the mainland, and a two-hour stop in Dubrovnik mid-morning before the heat and the cruise tide land. A walk on the walls, a coffee inside the stone, then back in the car. South across the Montenegrin border, into the Boka. By late afternoon the car parks at Boutique Hotel Blanc & Bleu in Kamenari — a stone hotel right at the narrowest point of the bay, where the Kamenari–Lepetane ferry crosses every fifteen minutes.

What to do

  • 01Dubrovnik in the cool of the morning — two hours, the walls or the empty Stradun, then out before the crowds.
  • 02First glimpse of the Boka from the ridge above Herceg-Novi — the bay folds back on itself.
  • 03Check in. Stone walls, wooden beams, a Deluxe Double with a view of the narrows.
  • 04Walk fifty metres to the water. Watch the ferries cross. Slow dinner in the village.

A loose rhythm

  1. 06:30Out of Orebić at first light. Ferry from Trpanj or drive the peninsula — whichever is faster today.
  2. 09:00–11:00Dubrovnik. Park at Pile or the port, walk the walls or the old town for two hours, coffee inside the stone. Out before the heat lands.
  3. MiddayBack in the car. South toward the border — keep moving.
  4. AfternoonBorder crossing into Montenegro. Coastal road around to Kamenari. Check in at Blanc & Bleu.
  5. EveningWalk to the water. Dinner nearby. Sleep early — three nights here, no need to do everything tonight.

Why this day

Dubrovnik in two hours is the right amount. Long enough to feel the stone, short enough not to be eaten by it. By 11:00 you are out, and the inner Boka opens in the afternoon — the chapter break completes itself.

How it will feel

Tired from the drive, but already inside the bay. The trip's second arrival.
