Chapter VIII · Home
The Buffer
Day 23 · Sat, July 4, 2026
Uitikon · home above Zürich · Switzerland
The route, drawn quietly
No plans. No obligations. Just presence. — Salt still in the suitcase, on Clay's collar, in a t-shirt at the bottom of the bag. The sea came home with us.
The Planned Day
Written before the day was lived. Held lightly. Will be replaced as it happens.
The shape of the day
The buffer day. No plans. No obligations. The day exists only to receive whatever the trip wants to leave behind.
What to do
- 01A long walk on the local hill. Same view, different eyes.
- 02Cook something simple at home. No restaurant.
- 03Sit with the journal. Notice what stayed.
A loose rhythm
- All dayWhatever feels right. Nothing more.
Why this day
A trip without a buffer day at home is a trip that never lands. This day is the soft floor under all the rest.
How it will feel
Whole. The trip stops being something that happened and starts being something that is.
Awaiting the day
Photos, essay, food, music — to be added when this day is lived.
